Flávio's father's government said no to the Butantan vaccine

On 21 October 2020, Jair Bolsonaro, then president, cancelled the purchase of 46 million doses of CoronaVac, from Butantan[1]. In 2022, he put the Port of Santos in the Programa Nacional de Desestatização (National Privatization Program)[2]. Flávio's plan promises to revive that program[3].

Vaccine

The vaccine from São Paulo

One day after the Health Ministry signed the protocol, Jair Bolsonaro, then president, cancelled the purchase. He called CoronaVac “João Doria's Chinese vaccine” and wrote: “my decision is not to acquire said vaccine”[1].

In January 2021, the government signed the contract with Butantan[4]. Ten days later, nurse Mônica Calazans, of Emílio Ribas, received the country's first dose[5].

Port

The port on the list

In July 2022, a decree by Bolsonaro put the Santos Port Authority in the Programa Nacional de Desestatização[2]. The decision was taken under then Infrastructure Minister Tarcísio de Freitas, now governor of São Paulo[6].

In October 2023, Lula's government took the port off the program[6].

The program

“Case by case”

Flávio's plan promises to revive the same program, “assessing case by case”. The plan doesn't say which ones. On Santos, it says that under Lula the port “became one of the world's largest cocaine exporters”[3].

The vote

The advertised partnership

Flávio's website advertises a “partnership with Tarcísio de Freitas to expand São Paulo's advances across Brazil”[3]. Tarcísio was a minister in the government that put Santos on the list[6]; Flávio is the son of the president who signed the decree[2]. On 25 October, São Paulo's voters decide.
