Who Flávio keeps company with: convicts, people under investigation and the labor reform rapporteur
The PL, Flávio Bolsonaro’s party, is chaired by Valdemar Costa Neto, convicted in the mensalão, whose sentence was extinguished by a pardon[1]. The central role in the campaign belongs to Rogério Marinho[2], rapporteur of the labor reform that let negotiated agreements override the law[3].

“Convicted” and “under investigation” are different situations, and each item says which applies. Flávio is not a defendant in any of these cases.

Who leads the PL
Valdemar Costa Neto, president of the party Flávio is running for, was convicted in the mensalão to 7 years and 10 months for passive corruption and money laundering. In 2016, the sentence was extinguished by a pardon[1].
In March, the STF convicted three PL lawmakers of passive corruption in the diversion of budget amendments: Josimar Maranhãozinho, Pastor Gil and Bosco Costa[7]. In December, the PF seized R$ 469,700 in cash from Sóstenes Cavalcante, PL leader in the Chamber. He and Carlos Jordy are under investigation, deny wrongdoing and say they are being persecuted[6].

The father and his ministers
The STF sentenced Jair Bolsonaro to 27 years and 3 months “for leading the coup attempt”. Two of his former ministers were convicted in the same case: Braga Netto, his 2022 running mate, to 26 years, and Anderson Torres, former Justice minister, to 24[5]. Flávio is not a defendant in this case.
Ciro Nogueira, Jair’s former chief of staff, says he has a “close relationship” with Flávio. The PF suspects he received a “monthly allowance of up to R$ 500,000” from Daniel Vorcaro, of Banco Master, and Ciro is under investigation. Flávio defended the operation: “The allegations in the Master case are very serious”[8].

The votes on workers
Rogério Marinho, who has “the central role in the political and overall coordination of the campaign”[2], was rapporteur of the labor reform. Under it, negotiated agreements can override the law, and unions no longer have to assist workers when they are dismissed[3]. In 2019, Flávio and Ciro voted Yes on the pension reform[4].

Flávio called the 6x1 debate “opportunistic”, says he has “an infinitely better proposal” and did not say whether he will vote in favor. His government plan advocates “allowing workers and companies to agree on working conditions directly”[10].
A president governs with the people beside him. On October 25, that company is on the ballot.
