Our yardstick

Seven votes, a declared side

What counts in favor is voting “Yes” on the policy of real minimum wage increases[3], on taxing exclusive funds and offshores[4], on the income tax exemption for those earning up to R$ 5 mil, with a minimum tax on incomes above R$ 600 mil a year[5], and on the PEC that ends the 6x1 schedule[6].

Voting “No” to overturning Lula's IOF decree counts in favor[7], against the motion that pulled MP 1303 from the agenda, which taxed betting sites, LCI, LCA and interest on equity[8], and against the marco temporal, which limits the demarcation of Indigenous lands[9].

The tally

Where PT and PL part ways

In three near-unanimous votes, the PL went along: 85 of 87 deputies on the minimum wage, 82 of 82 on the income tax exemption and 83 of 94 on ending the 6x1 schedule. On the rest, it went the other way: 12 of 85 on taxing exclusive funds and offshores, none of 88 against overturning the IOF, 2 of 75 on MP 1303 and 1 of 83 against the marco temporal[2].

The PT cast 447 of 448 votes with the social side. PSOL and PCdoB, all of them[2].

Challenge

Neutral is whoever picks the yardstick

The Ranking says it rates Congress “de forma apartidária e objetiva” (in a nonpartisan and objective way)[10]. But votes are 75% of the score, and the Ranking itself chooses which ones count and which is the right vote[11]. On the IOF and MP 1303, it gave 15 and 5 points to those who voted on the side opposite to ours[12][13].

We don't pretend to be neutral. Our yardstick measures who defends wages, rest, Indigenous lands and taxes on those who can pay. The Ranking's scores the other side and calls it objectivity. Every score is a choice. On the 25th, the yardstick is yours.
