He signed, voted yes and called it a trap

Flávio Bolsonaro signed the appeal that sent the bill against misogyny to the Senate floor[1], voted yes five months later[2] and, four days later, said it was “a big trap set by the PT”[3]. Earlier, at the CAE, he had announced a vote against the equal pay bill[4].

Pay

Against the bill, for “the idea”

In May 2023, at the CAE, Flávio announced a vote against the equal pay bill. He said it would not be effective and could increase litigation, and that he supports equal pay[4]. Lula signed Lei 14.611 into law in July[5].

Misogyny

A signature, a vote, a line

PL 896/2023, by Senator Ana Paula Lobato (PSB-MA), adds misogyny to Brazil’s anti-racism law. The CCJ approved it with a final ruling, and Flávio was one of 11 signatories of the appeal that took the bill to the floor instead of straight to the Chamber[1].

The appeal is allowed by Senate rules, and Flávio voted yes on the floor[2]. Four days later, he called the text “subjective”, said he opposes it and that he voted yes because the Chamber can still change or shelve it[3].

Track record

Three out of 306

In 24 years of public life, Flávio signed 306 bills and motions; 3 deal with protecting women. His office replied that protecting victims of violence was always among his main causes[7].

On October 25, the record is what counts.
