Flávio Bolsonaro, why won’t you open your bank records?
In the Band debate, Lula challenged Flávio Bolsonaro to open both men’s and their families’ bank and phone records[1]. Flávio said he has “nothing to hide” and has not accepted so far[1]. Allies in his campaign, speaking anonymously, say he will not accept[2].
Mar. 2015 to Dec. 2018 · Chocolate store in Barra da Tijuca, statements from the lifting of bank secrecy
Jornal Nacional had access to the statements from the lifting of bank secrecy on Flávio’s chocolate franchise: 1,512 cash deposits, many split up, with repeated amounts[3]. Only 1 of them reached the amount at which the transaction has to be reported to the authorities; all the others stayed below[3]. The Rio de Janeiro state prosecutors say the deposits were out of proportion to the store’s revenue and coincide with the period of the rachadinha (salary-skimming scheme) in his Alerj office[3]. His defense denies any wrongdoing[3]. The rachadinha case was thrown out by the courts in 2022, without a ruling on the merits, after the courts annulled the evidence[4]. The question remains: why did a chocolate store receive 1,512 cash deposits in less than four years?
Nov. 2020 to May 2022 · Office at the state assembly (Alerj), Rio prosecutors
Fabrício Queiroz, an aide to Flávio, told the Rio prosecutors in writing that he collected part of the office salaries and that Flávio did not know[5]. Prosecutors filed charges against Flávio in 2020[6]; the charges were rejected in 2022, without a ruling on the merits, after the courts invalidated the evidence[4]. The question remains: how did Flávio’s aide collect part of the office salaries without Flávio knowing?
Aug. 2022 · UOL's report on the Bolsonaro family
According to UOL, the family of Jair Bolsonaro, which includes three sons, dealt in 107 properties since the 1990s, and 51 were paid for fully or partly in cash, which is not a crime[7]. The report does not attribute any share of that total to Flávio[7].
Feb. to May 2025 · The film Dark Horse and former banker Daniel Vorcaro, owner of Banco Master
Flávio asked Vorcaro for money to help finance the film about his father. According to Intercept Brasil, cited by Valor, US$ 10.6 million of the US$ 23.9 million planned was transferred, or R$ 61 million of R$ 134 million[8]. Flávio confirmed that he received money from the former banker and said it was “private sponsorship for a private film”, with “zero public money”[8]. Justice André Mendonça of the Supreme Court included Flávio as a suspect in the inquiry, which mentions money laundering, illegal transfers abroad and corruption; there is no formal charge[9].
Oct. 20, 2026 · Federal Police report, Supreme Court inquiry under Justice Alexandre de Moraes
According to O Globo, a Federal Police report details the ties between Flávio and lawyer Willer Tomaz: Flávio was listed as a “master user” of a bank account of the company Alcazar Holding until May 2025, and private-jet trips were paid for by a Willer company[10]. The two are friends and, according to the newspaper, are investigated in the inquiry on suspicion of taking part in a money-laundering scheme; both deny any crime[10]. Willer says there is no business or financial relationship, that they never shared an account and that Flávio was never a “master user” at Alcazar[10].
Jan. 2023 to Jul. 2026 · Flávio's law firm, according to UOL
Flávio's law firm issued at least R$ 13.7 million in invoices while he was a senator, according to a UOL report reproduced by Brasil 247. The law allows legislators to practice law[11]. The Federal Police intend to examine the firm's transactions in the inquiry into the alleged shared account with Willer; Flávio and Willer deny the shared account[11].

The challenge
What Lula asked and what Flávio answered
In the Band debate on October 18, Lula challenged Flávio to open his bank and phone records, including those of relatives[1]. Flávio replied that he has “nothing to hide”, but did not say expressly whether he would accept[1].
On October 19, in Porto Alegre, Lula said he would hand the Superior Electoral Court, the next day, the authorization to open his and his family’s records, including his five children, “in the expectation that he hands over his”[12]. The request applies if Flávio also opens his[2].
On October 20, the SBT News column reported that Flávio’s allies, speaking anonymously, said he does not intend to accept and call the challenge an electoral “trap”[2]. In the reports cited, Flávio himself did not state that he refuses.
