36/ 47Social media outreach
The script is ready. Now you need to record it.
Every Mapa page has a headline, a figure, context and sources: the framework for a short video for Reels, TikTok or Kwai. Sharing helps. Recording is the goal.
Level 1 · 1 minute
Share
Every page has the button Share, at the top and bottom. On a phone, it opens the device’s sharing options with the page image in story format and the link: choose Instagram, WhatsApp status or a conversation. On a computer, and in mobile browsers that do not share images, it downloads the image and copies the link. Inside Instagram or Facebook on Android, it copies the link and asks you to open the page in your phone’s browser, where image sharing works.
Send it to the right person, with a sentence of your own: gasoline for drivers, hunger for grocery shoppers, Pix for sellers. In groups, one page at a time.
Level 2 · 15 minutes
Recombine
Save the images from three or four pages and combine them into a carousel or video, one image after another, with your voice over them. They are already vertical, in short-video format; check the framing in an Instagram carousel.
Do not crop out the text or the source outlets shown in the image. On the last one, or in the caption, add the address: mapasegundoturno.com.br.
Level 3 · The goal
Record
A video with your face and your voice reaches people who would never open a link. Choose a page, read it to the end and record following its order. One minute is enough.
The page becomes a script
010–3 sFrom the page: Headline
The hook
Say the headline looking at the camera. It is what makes people stop scrolling.
023–15 sFrom the page: Chart
The figure
Show the chart: record the screen or use a green screen, with the page behind you. Stick to one figure.
0315–40 sFrom the page: Text
The context
Say in your own words who did what, and when. Do not exaggerate: being investigated is not being convicted.
0440–50 sFrom the page: References
The source
Show the source list and name the outlet and date. That is what separates your video from a rumor.
0550–60 sFrom the page: Address
The invitation
Say the page address and ask viewers to send it to someone. The runoff is on Sunday, October 25.
Formats that work
- You and the page. A selfie video, with the page on a green screen behind you, pointing to the figure.
- Narrated screen. Record the screen as you scroll through the page and narrate over it.
- One fact a day. One page per video, in a series that always starts the same way.
- Response. When someone discusses a Mapa topic, respond with the page and source, in a duet or your own video.
- Conversation. A family member asks; you answer with the page in hand.
When recording
- Phone vertical, light from the front: facing a window.
- A quiet place with the phone close to you.
- Always use captions: many people watch without sound. If you use automatic captions, check the numbers.
- One topic per video, up to one minute.
- Post the same video on Reels, TikTok, Kwai and YouTube Shorts, with the page address in the caption.
At all three levels
Listen
In comments and groups, you will meet people who do not intend to vote. In the first round, 33.5 million voters did not turn out, 21.08% of the electorate[1], the highest abstention rate in a presidential first round since 1998[2]. Almost 6 million cast blank or invalid votes for president[1].
In a Travessia poll for Estadão in September, 33.6% of those considering not voting said “politicians are all the same and nothing changes”[3]. And some people are considering voting for the other side. They are not someone to beat in an argument: they are the person you want to reach.
How to talk
01
Thank them for the message.
Anyone who writes, even to disagree, is paying attention. Start with thanks, not a counterargument.
02
Ask before answering.
“What matters most to you?” Listen to the whole answer and say, in your own words, what you understood before sending any link.
03
Find the concrete problem.
There almost always is one: gasoline, Pix, food, the 6x1 work schedule. Send only the Mapa page about it, with a sentence of your own.
04
Tell your story.
In experiments in the US, arguments alone did not change attitudes; with a nonjudgmental exchange of personal stories, exclusionary attitudes decreased slightly, for at least four months[4].
05
Do not fight in public.
If the conversation heats up, stop or move it to private messages. Changing your mind in front of everyone is hard; let the person come back later without losing face.
When answering
Instead of“People who do not vote are giving the country away.”
Try“I understand the exhaustion. What made you give up?”
Instead of“They are not all the same. Do your research before speaking.”
Try“A lot of things really are disappointing. Can I show you a difference that affects your pocket?”
Instead of“That is fake, you fell for a lie.”
Try“Where did you see that? Send it over, and I’ll take a careful look.”
Instead of“If you vote for him, do not complain afterwards.”
Try“I respect that. Can I send you a page with the source, and you tell me what you think?”
Lula, without illusions
Lula is no savior
After his 2022 victory, Lula said: “I know the magnitude of the mission history has reserved for me, and I know I will not be able to fulfill it alone”[5]. The Congress elected on October 4 serves a four-year term[6], until early 2031, and the left and center-left will hold 124 of the Chamber’s 513 seats[7].
On April 30, Congress overturned Lula’s veto of the PL da Dosimetria, which could reduce sentences, including those of people convicted over January 8[8]. Flávio celebrated: “I could not have a better birthday present”[9]. The president does not decide everything, but chooses a side.
The income tax exemption for people earning up to R$ 5,000 a month, proposed by the government, passed in Congress[10]. The PEC da Blindagem passed the Chamber with votes from several parties, including 12 from the PT[11]; after the September 21 demonstrations, the Senate’s CCJ rejected it unanimously[12].
It is no salvation. It is four years to pressure this Congress with the person who vetoed it as president, rather than the one who celebrated it, and to organize for a more progressive Congress in 2030. On the 25th, that breathing room is on the ballot.
Within the law
What not to do
- Do not pay to boost posts. On the internet, anyone may engage in electoral campaigning, provided they do not pay to boost it[13].
- Use your own profile. Fake profiles, anonymity and tools outside the social network to inflate reach are prohibited[13].
- Do not send mass messages. Mass messaging of political and electoral content remains prohibited on messaging apps and platforms[14]. In a group, if people ask you to stop, stop.
- No artificial intelligence for your face or voice. Record yourself. The TSE resolution bans deepfakes and requires disclosure when content has been fabricated or altered with AI[15].
- Do not change the facts. The numbers and what the page says about each person stay as they are. Criticism with facts, without insults or doctored images.
- On Sunday, October 25, nothing new. On election day, publishing new content or boosting posts is a crime; content already online may remain[13].
