The father
Jair’s conviction
Jair Bolsonaro, who closed speeches with “God, homeland, family”[7], was sentenced by the courts to 27 years and three months in prison for leading an attempted coup[1]. He now serves his sentence under humanitarian house arrest; his defense has asked for a review of the conviction, citing new facts[11].
In 2017, the STJ upheld a civil ruling ordering him to pay congresswoman Maria do Rosário R$ 10,000 in moral damages[4].
The brothers
Eduardo and Carlos
Eduardo was convicted by the Supreme Court’s First Panel and sentenced to four years and two months in a semi-open regime for coercion in the course of proceedings[12]. According to the ruling, he worked to orchestrate the tariffs on Brazilian exports and try to prevent his father’s conviction[2].
Carlos was indicted by the Federal Police as head of the “hate office”[3] and is under investigation by Rio’s prosecutors over a suspected “rachadinha”[9]. His response: “Did anyone have any doubt that Lula’s Federal Police would do this to me?”[3]
